INDEX HOUSEHOLD GOODS AND PERSONAL EFFECTS CUSTOMS REGULATIONS FOR RETURNING MOZAMBICAN NATIONALS Major Port of Entry : MAPUTO Prohibited Articles : Firearms, ammunition, unlawful drugs, pornography and pornographic material. HOUSEHOLD GOODS AND PERSONAL EFFECTS Documents Required : Copy of valid passport Original bill of lading / Air way bill Inventory ( list of items ) Customs Regulations : For new residents used household goods are allowed into Mozambique duty free within the first six months of their arrival. Client's employer needs to prepare a declaration and submit to customs for approval. Private persons have only the possibility to import one article by type of goods. Clearance : We need to have all the documents 7 days before the arrival of goods into the country. For non diplomats customer presence is advisable since customs officials may want to open boxes and verify item by item. DIPLOMATIC REMOVALS Documents Required : Declaration from the embassy or the consulate stamped by the foreign ministry. Original bill of lading / air way bill Inventory of household goods Copy of diplomatic passport Clearance : We need to have all documents 7 days before arrival of goods into the country. Alcohol and other spirits are allowed for diplomats only but in acceptable quantities ( not more than 24 bottles ) Documents Required : Certificate of registration Copy of passport Original purchase invoice Original bill of lading Obtain import permit and inspection report for non diplomats prior to arrival of vehicle Customs Regulations : Customer may pay up to 100% tax on the actual value of the vehicle depending on engine capacity and year of manufacture. Diplomats are allowed to import one vehicle duty free but they have to request customs exemption. NEW FURNITURE Documents Required : Commercial invoice Packing list Original bill of lading / air way bill Certificate of origin Customer has to pay duties and apply for import permit (BRI). Import tax (40%) of the value. Diplomats are allowed to import new furniture duty free but they have to request and obtain customs exemption prior to the arrival of shipment. CUSTOMS REGULATIONS FOR RETURNING MOZAMBICAN NATIONALSThey are allowed to import used personal effects provided that these have been in their possession for more than 12 months. A list of items need to be prepared and this should be certified and stamped by the Mozambican consulate at origin. In addition to this returning nationals are allowed to import a second hand car if they have owned and used it for more than 180 days. They can apply to customs for exemption of duties in this case. In the case of importation of a new motor vehicle , an application can be made to customs for a 75% reduction on customs duties. All of the above regulations are subject to final confirmation as customs legislation and duties applicable might be changed with or without adequate notice. |
